Fashion Camp

Does you child love fashion? If so, this could be just the course for them. Aspiring fashionistas from 6 to 18 can express their creativity and have fun in this 5 day-long program! Each student receives individual instruction and guidance while creating their projects. Techniques used in camp include: hand sewing, machine sewing, embellishment, fashion illustration and inspiration boards. Students are encouraged to experiment with their creativity while developing skills. Camp runs Monday through Friday this summer with morning and afternoon sessions available; family and friends are encouraged to attend the Friday afternoon fashion show.

Classes Tailor-Made for Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Learners!

Looking to learn a new skill, have fun and be creative? Sewing is a great way to do all three! Now,Reach Fashion is offering classes for students of all levels at 63 Wingate St., in Haverhill’s Arts District right next door to the Reach Fashion store. Classes scheduled throughout the week for all levels and projects will change to meet the needs of the students.

Course Information

Beginner Classes – These classes are sewing basics 101. Start by learning about your machine, how to thread a sewing machine, wind bobbin thread and how to change the needle on a sewing machine. Learn about the different types of threads, needles and pins. We will cover the basics of several important sewing tools and you’ll learn how to perform
straight stitch, zigzag, curved and other basic stitches. We will also discuss the basics of patterns, fabrics and notions as we guide you through the process of making your first garment. We want to provide all the basics that make the whole sewing process much easier.

Intermediate Classes – By building on basic skills, in this class we’ll be working projects with store-bought patterns. Participants should have basic machine sewing skills, can easily thread their machine and know how to wind a bobbin. We’ll learn how to select store-bought patterns and the right fabric for your project, how to read a pattern, account for seam allowance, understand fabric grain and how to put pattern pieces together. Students will leave with a finished project.

Advanced Classes - For those who are very comfortable using their sewing machine and experience working with patterns we will explore the techniques involved with clothing construction. We will explore the use of patterns and how to choose the right size for your project. Learn the techniques of working with elastics, zippers, making button holes and
hand stitching. We will discuss techniques used for different types of fabrics, how they pertain to your projects as well as the finishing details that make garments look more professional.

Course Fees – All the courses above are $135 for four class session plus $20 for materials. If you need a machine, it’s just a one-time fee of $5 for the entire course. Payment can be made by cash or credit card at Reach Fashion. Gift certificates can also be purchased for sewing lessons.

Open Studio – Open to students of all levels who would like to work in the studio on a project of their own. Sewing machines and tools are available with assistance as needed. Just call to schedule a time. Open Studio fee is $30 for the first two hours and $10 for each additional hour per day.

What you’ll need: Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine, so you can learn how to use your machine to its potential. Don’t have your own machine? Don’t worry, we have plenty for you to use, you can rent a machine for a one-time fee of $5 per course Each student will also need a basic sewing tool kit including; good scissors,
tailor’s chalk, pins, safety pins and a tape measure (kits are available for purchase). Just that and a great attitude ready for fun!

Patterns and addition materials are also available for purchase at discount prices for all participants. !
